#64: Cities of the Heart are Built with Blood
Oh boy. This one has a tortured history. This is actually the fourth version of this large canvas - the previous three were all flawed in some way.
The first
Fell from the wall when the nail decided to jump for it. I loved this one, and will forever lament its passing.
Second version
Was too dark. The coverup of the damage from the fall altered the atmosphere too much.
Third version
I sponged the entire second version into one reddish haze, and re-dripped the white, red, and black paint. The outcome was interesting, but not quite enough.
So for the fourth version I dripped the paint from all four sides, and a few angles, which resulted in a really interesting "street and alley" effect. The photo didn't come out very well, but I'll take another photo post-varnish to show the coloring and depth. I don't love it as much as the first version, but it's much better than the second or third.
